Indications for use
- Steinman pins are used for skeletal traction of femoral fractures.
- The Steinman pin is inserted into the proximal tibia; a stirrup is attached and the desired traction applied.
- it is used in old age patients with weak bones as this arrangement prevents loosening and subsequent infection of pin sites.
